What Are We Learning?

Mathematics
- We begin each math class by counting to 100 one to two times. A few students have earned Kinder Surprises for counting to 100 without any assistance.
- We are continuing to work on our number recognition skills. We have been focusing on the numbers 1-100. We have had one student earn his "I can recognize numbers to 100" Kinder Surprise incentive.
- We are working on addition facts to 5 in a large group. Students are taking turns finding sums to questions on the SmartBoard and using manipulatives on a 10-frame.
- We are working on the concept of counting on and subitizing using the 10-frame. Students are learning that if we fill up the top row then we can look and see that it is full and say the number "5" rather than counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Literacy

- We begin each literacy class reviewing the letters of the alphabet and letter-sounds.

- Students have been working on reading and writing CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Expectations are individualized. We are working on the beginning and ending sounds, along with the medial vowel.

- Writer's Workshop is presented as a whole class activity where everyone helps decide on a topic, the picture, the sentences and sounding out the words.

- Students are divided into Literacy groups at least twice a week. Students are grouped based on areas of need.

Core Words
- The core words introduced during the month of November were: in, it and what.
- Students are learning how to read the core words introduced this year

Physical Education
- Students have learned about stick handling and are now participating in floor hockey games.
